Abstract

To improve the pharmacological characteristics of many types of medicinal compounds, the development of innovative and efficient drug delivery systems is critical. The technique or manner of providing a pharmaceutical substance to gain a therapeutic effect in people or animals is referred to as drug delivery. There are numerous types of drug delivery systems available in the current scenario. In the treatment of human diseases, the nasal and pulmonary routes of drug administration are becoming significantly important. For this objective, a several medicine delivery techniques have been devised and are being tried for nasal and pulmonary delivery.  Nanotechnology has now firmly established itself in the field of medicinal delivery. Intelligent drug delivery system’s performance is always being enhanced in order to increase therapeutic action while minimising negative side effects. One of the most prevalent elements on the planet is carbon and its allotriopic  modifications, such as graphene-based nanomaterials and carbon nanotubes. These carbon nanostructures could be engineered to assist deliver or target drugs more reliably, as well as to innovate,  treatment methods, particularly for the treatment of cancer, as well as for the creation of new diagnostic methods medicines for cancers, and they're predicted to aid in the combination of molecular imaging for diagnostics with chemotherapy. This review emphasizes on drug delivery systems, nanoparcticles  and role of carbon based nanoparticles like carbon nanotubes, graphene, graphene quantum dots in current medical scenario.
