Abstract

Vehicular networks play a crucial role in Intelligent Transport Systems, with the primary goal of enhancing road safety through real-time traffic updates and accident notifications. However, the open nature of these networks makes them susceptible to malicious vehicles that exploit the system to disseminate harmful messages. Identifying and preventing such malicious actors is imperative to maintain network integrity. Privacy preservation is important aspect, safeguarding users' identities from exposure and misuse. The proposed solution, Privacy Preserving Authentication approach, was executed in a Linux environment running Ubuntu 20.04 within a Docker container simulating the network. This innovative approach leverages blockchain technology, known for its tamper resistance and transparent ledger, managed through a peer-to-peer network. It assigns pseudo-IDs to vehicles, ensuring user privacy while maintaining data integrity. Each transaction in the blockchain is hashed, with subsequent transactions building upon the previous hash, making tampered data easily detectable and preventing unauthorized access. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of this scheme, boasting faster authentication and lower computational overhead compared to alternative methods, especially in scenarios involving increased message traffic.
